The Seeds of Light Sponsorship Program connects sponsors to our projects in South Africa, which provide support to those affected by HIV/AIDS. Many are either orphans or vulnerable children who have at least one parent with AIDS. We identify existing, sustainable, under-assisted projects and give practical support, moving them into viable operations that uplift the community. We support orphan care when we drill wells and build gardens; donate vehicles, school supplies, food and emergency funding.

At Seeds of Light, we define AIDS Orphans as children aged 0-14 who have lost one or both parents to AIDS. HIV/AIDS has created a global orphan crisis, as more and more adults with children die from AIDS, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. A heavy burden is being placed on grandparents, the community and the government to help these children survive. However, due to the overwhelming number of children, this infrastructure is not able to provide adequate support in many areas of South Africa.

We strive to support our projects in the spirit of Ubuntu (oo-boon-too), which is a tribal tradition of collaborative action. It is a philosophy of peaceful co-existence through which respect for others is fostered and the good of the whole is valued over that of the individual. The very heart of Ubuntu is based upon a concept of unity, oneness and the belief in the interconnectedness of all beings. As such, it is natural that each person supports the others within the community, for the highest good of all.

In the spirit of Ubuntu, we ask that you hold in your heart and prayers all of Mother Africa’s children, as well as the various projects and centers where they live in community with one another. We thank you for opening your heart in this way to all of the children and to those involved in providing their care!
